Abanilla

Abanilla is known as the Murcian Palestine because, together with its boulevards and taking advantage of its low humidity grounds, palm trees grow forming small oasis.

Abanilla is located southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Region of Murcia, and adjacent to the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community.

It borders the towns of Fortuna and Jumilla in Murcia, and the Benferri, Orihuela and Algueña Pinoso in Alicante.

The most important festivals are the festivals in honor of the Holy Cross and the Grand Parade Moors and Christians.

Albatera

Cox

The name comes from the Latin word Cox (Coxus or Coxum), meaning enclosed or fenced place, which is justified by the mountains that close to the south.

In times of the Visigoths it was renamed Coix. And Muslim era Cox along with Crevillente and Albatera formed a small independent state of the Moorish kingdom of Murcia governed by Aben-Huduel, but retained their region, their customs and their social status until 1320, date when the site becomes dominated by oriolanos nobles.

Crevillente

Crevillente is a town and municipality located in the Alicante province, part of the Valencian Community, Spain.

It is situated in the comarca of Baix Vinalopó, and lies at the foot of the hill range known locally as Serra de Crevillent.

The terrain is dry, and its main vegetation is composed by carob trees, almond trees, olive trees and esparto.

Crevillent is a major carpets production center.

 

The town was probably settled by Romans. In 1263, during the period known as Reconquista, James I of Aragon captured the city from the Moors and became a part of the Kingdom of Valencia.

The most important tourist places of the city are is a museum with works of Mariano Benlliure, a Valencian sculptor. Also remarkable is its Moors and Cristians festival.

Many of the agricultural areas, particularly El Realengo, contain ruins of prisons, ovens and torture houses used during Francisco Franco’s reign and the Spanish Civil War in the early 1900’s.

Daya vieja

Daya Vieja is a municipality of Valencia, Spain, located southeast of the province of Alicante, in the heart of the district of Vega Baja del Segura.
Its privileged location allows you to have at your fingertips, within less than 50 Km, all necessary services and best leisure options: golf courses, beaches, stadiums, etc.
It has an area of 3.1 square km. An average elevation of 4 meters, a population of 758 people and a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and pleasant summers.

 

The festivities are celebrated on September 8 in honor of the Virgen de Monserrate.

Dolores

Dolores is situated in the Vega Baja region of Alicante. 4 km from Almoradi and 4 km from Catral.

Fortuna

Fortuna is a Spanish municipality in the Eastern region of Murcia with a population of 10,098 inhabitants (INE 2012).

For local sightseeing: walking into the Mahoya desert, visit the Roman Fortuna environment, or hiking in the Sierra de la Pila, visit Murcia or Cartagena city and its ruins.

Guardamar

With the rise of tourism in Spain in the mid-twentieth century, this place went on to become the main economic engine of the town.

La Pinada , as it is called and the surrounding area now is not only home to many varieties of trees but there are a great variety of natural plants and wild life to enjoy. It is a wonderful place for an afternoon stroll to admire the beauty of the natural landscape.

Most of Guardamar’s ancient remains have been long since lost, however an element has been preserved. There is an important archaeological site at the remains of the medieval castle. Dating back to between the 9th and 10th centuries this castle is unique to the west and has been declared of cultural interest. Guardamars Castle, El Castillo de Guardamar del Segura, is located on top of a rocky hill next to the town.

Guardamar’s cuisine represents the genuine essence of the Valencian and Mediterranean cuisine. The garden and climate presents us with many dishes with fruits and vegetables. La Marina

La Marina is a small coastal village, north of Torrevieja and south of Santa Pola. The village itself has a good selection of shops, bars, banks and restaurants.

Orihuela

In Orihuela are traces of human settlement from the Chalcolithic (second half of the third millennium BC. JC), through the Argárica, Late Bronze and Iron Age culture to the Iberian culture and Roman.

During the Visigoth period was the capital of a demarcation covering the provinces of Alicante and Murcia. In S. VIII was head of the duchy of Teodomiro, which negotiated its autonomy with the Arabs; according to legend, the Visigoth hero stood at the city walls women dressed in uniforms of warriors, so that forced the negotiations with invaders. In the ninth century loses its independence from the Caliphate of the Umayyads. Subsequently, it is integrated into different Taifa kingdoms, until the S. XIII (17 July 1242) troops then Infante Alfonso de Castilla (later Alfonso X the Wise) reconquered the city.

In 1296 Orihuela pays tribute to Jaime II of Aragon and joined the Kingdom of Valencia, as head of government and voting in Parliament.

In 1564 the bishopric of Orihuela, long yearning of the oriolanos is created. During the War of Succession, the governor of the city, Marqués de Rafal, supported the pretender Charles of Austria; and with the victory of Felipe V, the city was sacked and lost their privileges.

Orihuela has given illustrious men in the field of literature, science and religion: the poet Miguel Hernandez, painter Joaquín Agrasot, Cardinal Desprades (first Apostolic Nuncio), Archbishop Loaces, etc. And it has been a source of inspiration for Gabriel Miró in his magnificent novels Nuestro Padre San Daniel and Bishop leper.
